Why do you love working at Kindred?
Kindred Market is my dream come true on so many levels. I love the comfort and satisfaction in knowing that the work I do (my physical, emotional, and mental effort) is sending ripples of positivity into my community and beyond. I love that it provides me with constant opportunity to connect with and learn from others who are passionate about nurturing themselves holistically. I love supporting our local food system and being a part of our communities’ vibrancy. And I cherish the Kindred Market staff for their individual contributions and their commitment to keeping hard work and creativity at the center of every work day.
What is your favorite product from the store?
This changes regularly, but right now, my favorite product is Nutzo Keto Butter.
Why do you like that product so much?
Coconut, brazil nuts, flax seeds, almonds, pecans! CHIA! (I mean, that line up…) ground into a nut butter that is sooo delicious. Sometimes you eat a thing and you just intuitively know; “my body needs this.”
Personal mantra you’d like to share?
“Keep a steady and loving pace.”
What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?
I’m really into field guides and naturalist texts on flora and fauna. If I travel to a new place, I’m eager to learn about all the native species. I love insects and creatures of all phylums and orders. I love botanical artwork and dabble in botanical drawings myself. I want to be a birder and a lepidopterologist and I desperately need to know the name of every new flower I meet.
What is the strangest talent you have?
I speak abnormally fluent Pig Latin.

The people! We are so very fortunate to have a staff made up of positive, caring people, and our customers are delightful.
What is your favorite product from the store?
Campfire Treats split turkey necks (for dogs)
Why do you like that product so much?
My dogs LOVE them! Plus they are rich in protein, chondroitin and glucosamine, so great for their joints, and they do an amazing job of cleaning their teeth.
What is something awesome about you that our customers should know?
Along with my husband, I raised three amazing people, all of whom are kind, charming, and capable individuals, and all of whom remarkably agreed to return to their hometown and reside on our family compound making it possible for us to have a role in their lives and the lives of our grandkids.
What are you passionate about?
My family, my pets, my friends, hiking, paddle boarding, good food and excellent wine.
What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?
I listen to audiobooks during every spare minute of every day.
If I were to invent a holiday it would be:
Dr. Doolittle Day. One day when animals could communicate clearly in human language so they can tell us what is really going on in their heads.
If I were a superhero, my super power would be:
Super Dog Mom. My human kids often complain about how my dogs get better treatment than they ever did.

I love working at Kindred for so many reasons. There’s always something cooking up in the kitchen that smells amazing, I get to work with the best people, help the most wonderful customers and there’s an opportunity to learn something new everyday. There is nothing here that I don’t love.

What are you passionate about?
I’m very passionate about hot sauce. Yes, hot sauce. If I don’t have access to any for a meal, I genuinely get upset. I have over 50 bottles at home. I’m signed up for a subscription box where I get 3 new bottles every month! I’m a literal fanatic.
What is your strangest talent?
the ability to fall asleep the second I close my eyes. I don’t even think about sleeping, if I’m tired and close my eyes I’m out in an instant. It’s a blessing and a curse.

What is your role at Kindred?
I am the Wellness Manager at Kindred Market. When it comes to healing, and health maintenance using herbs, supplements, and other natural modalities, I’m your woman. I absolutely love talking about health. As a matter of fact, it’s my top priority. Ask me questions! I also make decisions on which herbs and supplements Kindred Market carries on the shelves.
Why do you love working at Kindred?
The ambiance. The people. Need I say more?
What is your favorite product from the store?
My favorite product is the Wildfire Herbs Acute Allergy formula.
Why do you like that product so much?
Wildfire Herbs is an incredibly talented and local herbal medicine-maker. The formula is by far the best product I have ever used for any type of airborne allergy. As a matter of fact, the plants used in this formula, the most efficacious plant, is the type that you are swearing at when you hike—burs getting stuck on your sweater all the time! Customers give positive feedback about the Acute Allergy formula often.
Even folks with debilitating allergies have had monumental success. So many people suffer from dust allergies, cat/dog hair allergies, and seasonal outdoor allergies. This ONE product has the ability to improve the lives of MANY.
What are you passionate about?
Kindred Market is not just a job for me. I care deeply about putting the person before the dollar. Every time I see something that is cheap or a “great deal”, I think it’s great, too; then a little voice inside says “But how is it possible to make this item so cheaply?” The answer, I’ve found, is when it comes down to it, items are cheap because somebody somewhere is being exploited. It might not be on your back, but it is certainly on someone’s. People over the dollar. People over profit. I am passionate about this. I am passionate about shopping locally owned and independent stores. Not Walmart. Not Amazon. Simply Athens. If I can’t find it here, I probably don’t need it.
I am passionate about achieving well-rounded health in the most natural way possible. I am passionate about becoming closer to nature. It is my belief that the way humans have chosen to disconnect themselves from nature as much as we have is an incredibly large contributor to humans’ collective issues with chronic illness, both mental and physical.
I am passionate about sleep and yoga nidra (also called “yogic sleep”). Systematically relaxing every part of my body while my organs go into deep-compression mode — I can’t get enough! Plus, I love being enveloped by the big heavy blankets on a winter’s day. Mmmm…
What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?
The nerdiest thing I do in my spare time is balance my checkbook and finances to the penny. Every Sunday.
What is the strangest talent I have?
My most natural born talent is the ability to be late for every thing that has ever been scheduled in my adult life. I also have the outrageous ability to go the speed limit (55 is 55, my friends). My strangest talent: weights and measures. I can eyeball one ounce, half ounce, two ounces of any spice. I know how much containers weigh. I know how much volume they hold. Also––I can fly.

Let me count the ways!! Kindred Market is such a welcoming and friendly environment. Our customers are patient, kind, and very supportive. I’ve learned so much about health and food working here, and shopping for new products is a blast! Plus… BEST. CREW. EVER.
What is your favorite product from the store?
This question is a tough one! There are so many! If I absolutely have to choose one, it would be the white wines from Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyards.
Why do you like that product so much?
They are from the finger lakes region of upstate NY and they bring up some lovely memories. My dad grew up there, we vacationed there as a family, and my husband and I celebrated a very magical honeymoon there!

I currently have two favorite products from Kindred; Nancy’s Probiotic Whole Milk Yogurt – it’s thick and creamy, and the second is Everyone Coconut & Lemon 3-in-1 soap; I’ve joked I want to make a frozen drink with it because it smells so good!

I’d like to be able to fly. Or to be able to sing. I know singing isn’t really a superpower but changing my singing voice from what it is now to a great one would take the greatest of superpowers!

I love working at Kindred because it connects me to community and I am always in the loop about locals who offer incredible resources!
What is your favorite product from the store?
It is probably a tie between the beeswax candles/ wax blocks and the Lakewood cranberry juice blend.
Why do you like that product so much?
The candles are accessible and are a clean alternative to using candles the emit chemicals and carbon soot.
I love the juice because it reminds me of my childhood and has no added sugar!
