Local Farm Series: WIT Farm

We had a wonderful time touring the farm and learning about their animals!

We had the pleasure of meeting with Jamie at WIT Farm, located in the rolling hills of central Ohio, where she pasture raises pigs, turkeys, ducks, and chickens for meat and eggs. Keeping everything local is a big priority of hers and the reason the outline of the state of Ohio is part of her logo – she sells her products locally, sources all of her birds and non-GMO feed from Ohio, and processes them in Ohio.

Moving to a big city made Jamie realize she wanted to return to her country roots and raise her own food. For the first two years, she kept her farming operation small and sold her products to just friends and family. In 2019, her friend encouraged her to try selling at a local farmer’s market. She decided to give it a try and her sales were great. By the end of the year, she was able to quit her job and start farming full time. She started out with only pigs and some laying ducks. Now, she offers over 100 different products, as well as homemade lard candles, dog treats, beef snack sticks, and beef jerky. She sells at 3 weekly farmer’s markets, 2 brick and mortar stores (one of them being Kindred Market), and runs her own CSA.

WIT stands for “Whatever It Takes”. This was her husband’s Marine unit’s motto and she likes how it represents her farm. It’s clear that Jamie is willing to do whatever it takes. Not long after she started farming full time, a devastating fire destroyed her barn, tractor, equipment, and some of her birds. It was a huge loss, but she kept going. Her motto for the farm is “Local. Pasture Raised. Loved.” When asked what the best part of farming is for her, she said that she truly loves working with the animals and providing quality meat to her customers and connecting with them through her products. She treats all of her animals with love and respect, ensuring that they are happy and have access to grass and plenty of space to roam. Their no-waste “nose to tail” philosophy means that the feet and organs of the birds are made into dog treats and candles are made with the lard from the pigs.

We are so grateful to have the opportunity to source pork from a local producer that cares so much about their animals, the land, and the quality of their products! Stop by and try some of their fantastic pork products today! We are fully stocked on pork chops, ground pork, spare ribs, sausage links, bratwurst patties, chorizo links, bacon, and seasoned pulled pork. We carry their dog treats and candles as well.
